Basic Operations and Concepts

The students will:
define and use grade level terminology
identify parts of the computer system
demonstrate proper care of equipment
properly insert, remove, and handle storage media
login/logoff network
wakeup/startup/shutdown
use input devices; mouse and keyboard
single and double click the mouse
drag and drop objects in window
minimize, maximize and close windows
adjust volume on speakers and taskbar
start and exit an application/program
scroll vertically and horizontally
save and retrieve documents from designated directory
navigate within directories and subdirectories
print to designated printer
create, name and rename files and folders

Word Processing

The students will:
input and edit simple text in a word processing document
use standard and formatting toolbars
manipulate text: font, size and color
use Undo button on Standard toolbar
open, save, and retrieve a document
adjust alignment of text: left and center
format text: bold, italics, underline

The students will:

Database

The student will:
use prepared electronic databases such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs, catalogs, etc.

Keyboarding

The student will:
display correct posture at the computer
use left and right hand appropriately
type alphabetic keys using touch method
use keys: Shift. Enter, Backspace, and Spacebar
introduction and reinforce home row keys and correct hand placement (not from archdiocese)

2nd Graders come to the lab 2 times a week. We practice typing one of the two times each week in Type to Learn 3

Internet

The student will:
develop an awareness of safe Internet usage
navigate a webpage using scrollbar, Back button and hyperlinks
engage in age-appropriate/curriculum related online activities
access a website entering a URL (website address)
use designated Internet sites as a source for information
identify parts of a website/webpage: URL, homepage, title, hyperlinks

Multimedia Presentation

The student will;
explore draw and paint tools (Kid Pix, Kid Works)
create and print a picture with text in a paint/graphic application
share an electronic creation

6. Diagram the Parts of the Mass in Inspiration - Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist

7. Symmetry - Students draw in a drawing program using the symmetry tool

8. Jeopardy Game Review Jeopardy game to review computer skills for 2nd grade.
